Eurovignette: An eco-friendly freight system
Today, 12 September, The Council of the EU approved the European Parliament´s amendments to introduce road charges to heavy goods vehicle.
This new amendments will take two years to come into legislation. This new rules aim to reduce pollution from road transport and smoth traffic flows by charging tolls that incorporate costs of air and noise pollution.
Lorries will probably have an external cost charge, in addition to the already existing infrastructure charge or they can modulate the infrastructure charge to take account of road congestion, with a max variation of 175%
Costs will be different in relation of the vehicle, the distance travelled, and the location and time of the road use, to encourage environmentally friendly transport patterns.
